Braniff Hostess Uniform exhibit

Welcome to forty years of fashion, flight, and a little fantasy!

Dallas-based Braniff International Airways played a pivotal role in the history and the look of the national and international aviation industry.

The uniforms worn by the airline's flight attendants, popularly known as "hostesses," reflected this colorful status. Many of the uniforms and accessories included in this exhibit are from the Clipped B's Braniff Collection of the Dallas Historical Society.

The Clipped B's formed in 1947 as a service organization composed of former Braniff hostesses. Among their numerous charitable projects, the group staged style shows documenting the evolution of Braniff hostess uniforms. In an effort to preserve this unique example of American material culture, the Clipped B's donated their treasured collection of historic uniforms to the DHS in 1987.
