Dallas History Items: Makers of Dallas
In the archives of the Dallas Historical Society can be found a book entitled Makers of Dallas. Published in 1912 by the Dallas Newspaper Artists' Association, it was presented as a "work of reference of prominent business and professional men in Dallas,---the men who are performing their share of the world's work and particular in furthering the interests of 'City of the Hour'" (Makers of Dallas Preface). Some of the men included in the book include Alexander Sanger of Sanger Brothers, Adolph Harris of A. Harris and Co., Simon Linz of Linz Bros., and R. S. Munger for whom Munger Place was named. As the book was printed in 1912, all articles contain "up to date" information. Information in the descriptions include such things as where they were born, to whom they were married, of which clubs and organizations they were a member, and even what political affiliation they were. Even given its age Makers of Dallas remains in good condition and could be a very good source for research. If you have any questions or comments about this item, post a message on our Message Board.
