Color in the Sky: 1968 - Pucci III

1968 Flight Attendant Uniform

Pucci entered a classic phase with "Pucci III." The number of separate components was reduced. The new uniform consisted of a reversible wool coat worn over an above-the-knee dress with dropped waist and swinging panels. The dress was made in pale pink or plum colored Trevira polyester and wool blend. It could be accessorized with a choice of six different Pucci print silk scarves tied in a variety of arrangements. The most notable part of the collection was what it lacked: for the first time in Braniff's history hostesses were no longer required to wear hats.

The new uniform was worn with distinctive pink patent leather pumps repeating the Pucci color scheme. Pucci's designs all had historic precedents. The shoes were accented with a single square green heel harking back to the colored heels of the seventeenth century French royal court. The shoes were manufactured in Italy by Baldino for Braniff.
