Color in the Sky: 1955 - Winter Uniform

1955 Flight Attendant Uniform

In December, 1955, Braniff began construction of a new terminal at Love Field to replace the one on Lemmon Avenue. Despite this progress, the airline's hostess uniform continued a blend of the military and New York's Fifth Avenue.

The classically tailored ensemble consisted of a hip-length princess-line jacket with faux bound pockets and padded shoulders worn with a fitted below-the-knee skirt with deep kick pleat. The uniform was accessorized with blue and white spectator pumps, a matching overcoat, and a navy blue handbag. The suit was designed by Neiman-Marcus and manufactured by Delta Uniforms. The wool gabardine overcoat was purchased at Philipson's of Dallas.
